The Daily Meal recently compiled a list of the 101 best pizzas in America. Some rankings weren't too shocking: you might expect Chicago and New York to be pretty well-represented, and they were. One thing that came as no surprise to residents of the Nutmeg State was that six pizzerias in Connecticut made the list. We are glad to be nationally recognized for our great pizzas in Connecticut! Without further adieu, here are the spots that made the cut:
1. BAR: 254 Crown St, New Haven, CT 06511
BAR is famous for their big list of toppings. You'll find the usuals like pepperoni and sausage, but you can also pick up little-necked clams, mashed potatoes, and egg pizzas here! They came in at 47 on The Daily Meal list.
Please note that you must be 21 or older to enter BAR. Get their full list of toppings on their website.
2. Zuppardi's Apizza: 179 Union Ave, West Haven, CT 06516
Ranking 45 on the list was Zuppardi's Apizza, a beloved family-owned staple of West Haven. They've got so many pizzas, both tomato-based and white, that are worth trying.
You can look at their menu on their website, but fair warning, it'll make you hungry!
3. Colony Grill: 172 Myrtle Ave, Stamford, CT 06902
Colony Grill has been around since 1935. Their pizza's so good it actually caused everything else to be removed from the menu. They no longer even have a grill! They were ranked 43 on The Daily Meal's list.
They have a number of locations throughout Connecticut and are now expanding into other states. Visit their website for more information.
4. Modern Apizza: 874 State St, New Haven, CT 06511
Coming in 16th in the list of best pizzas in America was Modern Apizza. Despite the current-sounding name, this pizzeria has actually been around since 1934. It's been on "Man v. Food Nation" and is considered one of the best pizzerias in the entire world.
Visit their website for more information.
5. Sally's Apizza: 237 Wooster St, New Haven, CT 06511
Coming in at a respectable 9th on The Daily Meal's list, Sally's Apizza serves up coal-fired pizza from brick ovens. Their specialty is New Haven-style: thin-crust, with only tomato sauce and Parmesan as toppings. The restaurant's been a staple of the Wooster Square neighborhood since 1938.

6. Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana: 157 Wooster St, New Haven, CT 06511
It came as no shocker to anyone that Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana again ranked #1 as the best pizza in America. Their clam pizza is one of the most iconic foods in Connecticut. They are thought to be the first to call New Haven-style pizza "apizza," a name it's still known by today.
Their original New Haven location has been open since 1925. You can check out a list of other locations on their website.
