Calumet Fisheries is a seafood smokehouse in South Chicago that's full of local history. It has been honored with many awards and featured on national TV shows.
You may even recognize it from the The Blues Brothers. They jump the 95th Street Bridge, which runs right in front of the fish shack.
The restaurant is most famous for wood-smoking its own seafood on-site. This dying art is a tradition sacred to Calumet Fisheries.
It has been family-owned and operated since 1948. It was started by brothers-in-law and remains a part of the same families today.
This is a grab-and-go seafood restaurant and, as there is no seating, you'll enjoy your meal outside with a view of the Calumet River.
You can wait until you get home, but it's hard to resist the urge to gobble it all up as soon as you get it. Many also like to eat in their cars while parked right outside. The fresher the better!
You can get smoked varieties of just about any fish including salmon, chubs, catfish, different types of trout, white fish, and herring.
You can also order your seafood fried. Enjoy with a side of fries, mozzarella sticks, onions rings, coleslaw, potato salad, or other side items.
Additional dishes include frogs legs, crab cakes, smelts, oysters, and scallops
