A trip to Southern California wouldn't be complete without stopping for a hot dog or hamburger at Carneys Express. Since 1975, this SoCal restaurant has been a familiar landmark along the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles. Set inside an old Pacific Railroad passenger train, it's impossible to miss Carneys Express as you drive down Sunset Boulevard.
Here's a sneak peak at this local gem that everyone should experience at least once. Why? Because dining inside a vintage train car is most certainly on your bucket list. And if it's not, it should be!
Hop Aboard Carneys Express!
There's an old-fashioned charm about a vintage train car and Carneys sure knows how to capture that retro magic.
Once you step inside this inviting bright yellow railroad car, you'll find a cozy interior with small tables lining the train car and a cute little window where you step up to place your order.
It can be a tight squeeze inside Carneys as this place gets packed. But long lines are always a good sign as you know the food must be delicious. And it is!
Carneys serves the tastiest comfort food in SoCal. From juicy hamburgers to spicy polish dogs smothered in chili, and all sorts of mouthwatering options in between, you'll find the perfect item on the menu to satisfy whatever you're craving.
My favorite thing to order here is the chili cheese fries and double burger. There's nothing low calorie about it, but a plate of comfort food is always worth an extra 30 minutes on the treadmill, right?
If it gets too cramped on the inside, you can always grab a seat at the outdoor patio. I love the picnic tables and umbrellas that block out the sun but still let me dine alfresco.
If you're more of a night owl, Carneys is open until midnight on weekdays and 3am on weekends. I think it's especially charming at night when the train is all aglow with twinkly lights.
If you want to check out Carneys for a bite of comfort food inside a vintage train car, then head to 8351 W. Sunset Boulevard.
