Tired of climbing all those steep hills? How about enjoying some jaw-dropping San Francisco views while being served top-quality seafood and beef, a fresh salad, and a specialty cocktail? You can get all of the above and more at these 10 San Francisco restaurants with million-dollar views.
1. The View
The name says it all—this restaurant, bar, and lounge at the top of the San Francisco Marriott Marquis, located at the crossroads of the Financial District, SoMa, and Union Square. Travel to the 39th floor for some spectacular city views, order from a variety of small plates, hot plates, and drinks and soak in the high (literally) life.
2. El Techo de Lolinda
One of the few outdoor rooftop spots in San Francisco, this Mission Street fave boasts one of the best views of the city, from downtown to Sutro Tower, and some pretty great Latin American street food. Get the fried plantains, guac, mango, and chorizo, plus a margarita or cerveza, and cozy up under a heat lamp—you’re probably going to need it.
3. Top of the Mark
Climb to the 19th floor of the prestigious Mark Hopkins Hotel at the top of Nob Hill for 360-degree views of the city. Tapas, small bites, and signature cocktails round out the menu, but if you want the creme da la creme of their offerings, come for the Sunday Champagne Brunch.
4. The Beach Chalet Brewery & Restaurant
Escape downtown’s hustle and bustle and head down to this seaside restaurant, which sits alongside Ocean Beach and offers spectacular views of the great Pacific. The extensive menu features specials from both land and sea, and I highly recommend ordering the housemade brew sampler set.
5. The Cliff House
The other oceanside restaurant is part of the Sutro Historic Landscape District, overlooking Ocean Beach, Seal Rocks, and the Sutro Bath ruins. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer spectacular views, all with the warm comfort of the indoors. There are a few options here, including Sutro’s, known for its fresh seafood and the more casual Bistro Restaurant, a favorite for breakfast or brunch.
6. EPIC Steak
This modern steakhouse is fit with plush leather chairs and an incredible view of the Bay Bridge and San Francisco skyline. To match the scenery, the food and wine selection is rich and impressive, including fresh seafood and plenty of beef. Go for the 5-lb. Epic "Dude Ranch" Steak if that view leaves you especially ravenous.
7. Waterbar
The only way to enjoy fresh and sustainable seafood is right next to the water, right? This beautiful restaurant is situated along the Embarcadero and features panoramic views of the bay. Come for the daily $1.05 Oyster Happy Hour.
8. La Mar Cebicheria Peruana
At Pier 1.5 along the Embarcadero, this Peruvian restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating for optimal bay views. We highly suggest the ceviche trio and the empanada sampler.
9. Coqueta
Walk a little further down the Embarcadero to reach Chef Michael Chiarello’s beautiful bayside Spanish restaurant, which puts a modern, NorCal spin on traditional tapas.
10. McCormick & Kuleto’s
Located in Ghirardelli Square, this spot specializes in seafood and steak, but overshadowing it all are the expansive views of the bay, Alcatraz, and Angel Island.
