It seems like there's a new taco shop popping up on every street corner here in Southern California. While many of them are quite excellent, there are a few that really stand out and make you want to return again and again (and again!). From fish tacos to carne asada tacos and everything in between, here are seven places to get tacos in SoCal that are out-of-this-world good. Just stand warned: you're totally going to have to fulfill your taco cravings after reading about these drool-worthy fare!
1. Taco Beach Cantina
There really are no bad choices at Taco Beach Cantina. Some days we're craving the Grilled Mahi Tacos because we simply can't get enough of that house-made Baja sauce. Other days, we're more in the mood for the Cali Tacos with carnitas inside. Soft tortilla tacos, crunchy corn tacos, piles of nachos... you'll be in a happy food coma in no time!
2. Pedro's Tacos
You can't go wrong with any of the tacos on the menu at Pedro's, but the real standout here are the fish tacos. Their version of this classic SoCal dish is famous, and beautiful in its simplicity: battered cod, cabbage, salsa, and dressing. They are so good, you'll want to order a few!
3. Beach House Tacos
When you arrive at Beach House Tacos and see the long line out of the door, you'll instantly know you have hit the taco jackpot. Their signature "Early California" is a revelation: fish or shrimp, purple cabbage, corn relish, avocado, chipotle cream, lime dressing on a corn tortilla. It's an absolute must-try!
4. Los 5 Puntos
What this unassuming little Mexican restaurant lacks in curb appeal, it makes up for in flavor. Since 1967, Los 5 Puntos has been making some of the tastiest tacos in SoCal, with warm, homemade tortillas that feel like a giant hug. Stuffed with the most flavorful meat, guacamole, and fresh salsa you can imagine, you'll devour every last bite. Be sure to grab some extra napkins, because these tasty tacos can get quite messy!
5. Lucha Libre Taco Shop
Not only will you find amazing food at this local taco shop in SoCal, but you’ll also love the fun and funky setting that makes this destination one of the quirkiest taco shops around. From vibrant pink walls to gold leather seating, this place looks wild. But don't let its appearances fool you; Lucha Libre Taco Shop is one of the best in SoCal. Their most iconic menu item is the Potato Rolled Tacos, which sort of look like enchiladas, and are amazing. Their mole is also incredible, and totally abuela approved.
6. King Taco
King Taco originally got its start in 1974 selling tacos from an old ice cream truck. Fast forward to 2021, and now King Taco has multiple locations throughout SoCal to satisfy its loyal following. Flavorful meat sautéed to perfection with a healthy sprinkle of onions and cilantro on top make for a simple taco bursting with flavor.
7. Snapper Jack's Taco Shack
The crispy tacos are the way to go at Snapper Jack's Taco Shack. The tortillas are crisp, light and flaky, and add the perfect flavor and texture to any taco you order.
