1. The Cliff House: 1090 Point Lobos, 94121
The seaside is a trademark city restaurant with history, incredible sea views, and retro style. The Cliff House is a very popular and classic SF restaurant and attraction. Parking may be tough, but worth it for the views and old school ambiance. Go for the breakfast, brunch, desserts, and seafood here.
2. Forbes Island: Pier 41, San Francisco
This is a one-of-a-kind and eye catching restaurant. Back in 1975, self-made millionaire Forbes Thor Kiddoo began construction of his very own island in Sausalito. He was eventually able to move it to San Francisco's tourist capital, near Piers 39 and 41. Forbes Island specializes in California-French cuisine, but it's all about the funky underwater dining room.
3. Quince: 470 Pacific Ave, San Francisco, 94133
This is another restaurant that emanates elegance and charm. You'll feel you're in a dining room that more belongs in a home than restaurant. Quince is a newly-minted 3-Michelin restaurant offering great food as well.
4. The Tonga Room: TheFairmont Hotel, 950 Mason Street, 94108
What other restaurant in the city (let alone the USA) can you have a 75 foot swimming pool with mid century-modern Tiki decor? The Tonga Room is beautiful and memorable for their creative and original design concept. The Tonga Room delivers an eccentric allure along with food, drinks, and live music. This restaurant is wildly popular for many things beyond the food!
5. Boulevard: 1 Mission Street, 94105
Boulevard oozes with sophistication and refinement. Boulevard is famous for French decor and scenic views of the Bay Bridge too. This is definitely a San Francisco favorite with incredible and rich food for special occasions. Noted chef Nancy Oakes serves an outstanding New American menu that includes spicy sesame ahi tuna tartare and fresh sea scallops.
6. Top of the Mark: 999 California Street, San Francisco, 94108
This is beautiful restaurant for the grand and sweeping city views. Top of the Mark is located on the 19th floor of the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins Hotel. If you're lucky (that is, if the fog doesn't get in the way) you can see the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, the Transamerica Building, and Alcatraz while enjoying a fancy cocktail with your meal. This is definitely some fine dining in Nob Hill!
7. Mourad Restaurant: 140 New Montgomery St, Ste 1, San Francisco, 94105
This restaurants feels like it is another realm. The decor is just amazing, and overall the restaurant glows with rich light and life. Mourad features authentic Moroccan design in modern interpretation, being in perfect harmony with the cuisine.
8. Zuni Cafe: 1658 Market St, San Francisco, 94102
Feel like you're in the heart of the action in the city and get a dazzling dining experience. This classic Hayes Valley spot has been around since 1979 (when it began as a Mexican joint). It’s since become a trendsetter in bistro-style comfort food, using seasonal, organic ingredients inspired by regional French and Italian cuisine.
9. The View: 780 Mission Street, San Francisco, 94108
The name says it all! And, this places serves delicious food and of course it is better known for drinks. The View has massive arched windows that showcase city views at this grand spot. When you step out of the elevator, you will be wowed by the glittering lights of Fog City below.
10. Foreign Cinema: 2534 Mission St, San Francisco, California, 94110
Foreign Cinema has movies, dreamy lights, and a an aura all its own. People flock to Foreign Cinema to enjoy good food and a classic flick. Every night, the restaurant screens a movie in its outdoor courtyard, highlighting everything from classic films to obscure arthouse.
