If there's one meal that Boston restaurants universally excel at, it's breakfast. Here, we know the importance of starting the day off right. There are countless great places to grab breakfast throughout the city, but these 8 spots dish up such delicious breakfasts that you'll find yourself wishing it could be tomorrow morning already!
1. Zaftigs Delicatessen (Brookline and Natick)
"Let us be your Jewish mother." That’s Zaftigs’s motto and, once you take a bite of the food here, you’ll beg to be adopted! From potato pancakes paired with applesauce and sour cream, to divine challah French toast, drizzled with maple syrup, this Jewish deli has perfected the classics. Breakfast starts at 8:00 a.m. and is served all day. There are two locations: 335 Harvard Street in Brookline, and 1298 Worcester Street in Natick.
2. Blunch (South End)
Blunch is known for breakfast sandwiches that’ll easily keep you full until lunch. With super fresh bagels and fluffy eggs, Blunch’s sandwiches are an ideal breakfast choice, especially if you need your food to go. Breakfast begins at 8:00 a.m. Monday through Friday, and at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday. Blunch is located at 59 E Springfield Street in Boston.
3. 3 Little Figs (Somerville)
This light and airy coffee shop and bakery offers a curated breakfast menu that proves quality always wins out over quantity. Choose between rich Greek yogurt, lavender biscuits, or – on the weekends – an addictive veggie breakfast pie. Come in for breakfast from 7:00 a.m. on weekdays and from 8:00 a.m. on weekends. This restaurant is located at 278 Highland Avenue in Somerville.
4. Mike and Patty’s (Bay Village)
Another scrumptious breakfast sandwich joint is Mike and Patty’s. This dinky spot dishes up a breakfast torta to die for, featuring black beans, avocado, egg, and cheddar. Pair it with a glass of grapefruit juice and you’re more than set for the day. Mike and Patty’s opens at 7:30 a.m. every day except Mondays and Tuesdays, when it opens at 8:00 a.m.. You’ll find it at 12 Church Street in Boston.
5. The Friendly Toast (Back Bay and Cambridge)
The food at Friendly Toast is so scrumptious that it’s tempting to keep returning until you’ve sampled the entire menu! As far as goals go, that’s a worthy one. Start with the biscuits and white pepper gravy, order from the large eggs benny menu, or indulge in chocolate chip pancakes. This restaurant is always hopping because diners can’t get enough of the super fresh ingredients. There are two locations to choose from: one is at 1 Kendall Square in Cambridge, while the other is at 35 Stanhope Street in Boston. Breakfast is served from 8:00 a.m. daily.
6. Flour Bakery (multiple locations)
With seven locations, odds are there’s a Flour Bakery near you. That’s pretty spectacular news, because when it comes to pastries the folks here are true pros. Flour’s sticky buns became famous after pastry chef and Flour Bakery owner Joanne Chang beat Bobby Flay in a sticky bun throwdown. Since then, Flay has dubbed these sweet treats "the perfect sticky bun." You can’t argue with perfection!
7. Mike’s City Diner (South End)
A cash-only joint with a loyal following, this staple of the South End dishes up a mean hash. The eggs Benedict is another menu highlight and, if you’re ready for a food challenge, order the "intensive care," which consists of a 10 oz sirloin, three eggs, toast, and home fries or grits. Wow! Mike’s is located at 1714 Washington Street in Boston and breakfast is served from 6:00 a.m. onwards.
8. The Breakfast Club (Allston)
Travel back to the 80s at this nostalgic, themed diner where menu items have names like "the princess," "the basket case," and "the dork" that’ll make John Hughes fans grin. Even if you didn’t love the movie, you’ll love this Breakfast Club where popular dishes include the breakfast burrito and "the janitor" (eggs over corned beef hash). Show up for breakfast from 6:00 a.m. onwards on weekdays and from 7:00 a.m. on the weekend. This diner is located at 270 Western Avenue in Allston.
