When the weather outside is frightfully hot, escape into Lala's winter wonderland
From the moment you enter this quirky dive bar on Justin Lane, you know it's not your ordinary watering hole.
Francis Lala opened this cheery dive bar in 1972.
This iconic bar briefly closed, but it reopened in September 2015.
Even though the inside is cheery, the rumor surrounding it is hardly merry and bright.
According to legend, this bar wasn't originally intended to have a forever festive atmosphere. The story states that Lala decorated this bar in anticipation for her son's return to Austin. Before he arrived, however, he sadly passed away. After that, Lala decided never to take the tinsel down.
This story, however, is nothing but a dramatic tall tale.
The truth is that Lala thought the bar looked a little too bare without the Christmas trees sitting in the windows and the ornaments hanging from the ceiling, so she decided to keep them up year-round.
Sometimes even Santa makes an appearance!
You're never too old to make a Christmas wish list.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
Lala's is open every day until 2:00 am. Visit this unusual bar at 207 Justin Ln.
