If you’re in Benton, do yourself a favor and stop in at this old-fashioned drive-in restaurant in Arkansas.
Tucked on the corner of Cox Street and Edison Avenue in Benton is Garry’s SlingBlade Drive-In. Originally known as Leon's Whopper Burger, this joint has switched ownership several times as well as names over the years.
And speaking of names, can you guess where the name “SlingBlade” came from? It was named after the 1996 movie that was written by Benton native Billy Bob Thorton.
A scene from the movie was filmed inside the tiny drive-in. Fans and locals alike can enjoy the movie posters as well as still pictures that are hung on the walls.
Along with the booths and the bar stools, you can find seating outside. Or opt for the drive thru or walk-up window and take your food to go.
What I love about dairy bars is that the food is always consistent. You can get a darn good cheeseburger served with fries and all the fixins.
One look at the Slingblade Drive In menu, and your mouth's sure to start watering.
Additionally, there are those classics like fried pickles, Frito chili pies, fried bologna sandwiches, and catfish that are staples in Arkansas.
Other menu items include chicken fingers, Philly steak sandwiches, shrimp po’ boys, BBQ, pizza, and so much more. Don’t skip over the fried pork rinds; they are made fresh every day.
No trip to an old-school drive-in is complete without getting a classic milkshake. There are over 10 flavors to choose from and they’re all worthy of the calories.
If milkshakes aren’t your thing, how about an ice cream float, a sundae, or some yummy pie?
