If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! That old adage definitely applies to Magnolia Bake Shop, Arkansas’ longest running bakery. It’s been around forever and has barely changed, especially when it comes to the recipes used to whip up its signature sweets.
There are lots of bakeries in Arkansas. Only one takes the title of the state’s oldest, though, and it’s Magnolia Bake Shop in Magnolia.
The bake shop opened its doors in 1928 and has been whipping up delicious sweets ever since, making it the oldest and longest continuously run bakery in the state.
And its popularity hasn’t wavered over the years. Today, most of the patrons are repeat customers.
Part of the bake shop’s allure is its old-timey feel – and that’s no coincidence. Not much at the bakery has changed throughout the decades.
The furnishings and setup are almost exactly as they were when the bake shop first opened.
It’s not just the layout that’s barely changed over the years, though. The bake shop still uses its original recipes to whip up fresh sweets daily.
So, those visiting today are treated to the same sweets as patrons who frequented the bake shop decades ago.
Cakes with homemade icing are – and always have been – one of the bake shop’s biggest sellers.
Other popular menu items include cinnamon rolls, gingerbread cookies, iced butter cookies, homemade pies, and Danish cookies.
Magnolia Bake Shop strives to be an “old-time, hometown bakeshop,” and between the setting and fare, it’s safe to say it’s succeeded!
