There's a famous saying that goes, a glass of wine per day keeps the doctor away, or perhaps it was an apple, who knows. Either way, I enjoy having a glass or 2 of wine daily. I am no wine expert, but I love that I live in Arkansas, where we have a rich wine history that stretches back over a hundred years. Of course, when discussing wine, Arkansas might not be the first state that comes to mind, but there are several vineyards in our state that have placed us on the map. Mount Bethel Winery is an award-winning winery in Altus, and with over 20 acres of vines, it's one of the largest wineries in our state. Featuring free wine tasting, tours, as well as a fascinating history lesson, this destination winery in Arkansas is one that you must visit.
Calling all wine enthusiasts of Arkansas! If you're searching for a winery to spend the day, then Mount Bethel Winery is the perfect venue for you.
This family-owned winery in Altus is the third oldest in Arkansas and has won several awards for its wine selections.
Tucked inside the foothills of the Ozarks, the expansive vineyard and winery is a must-visit destination in Arkansas wine country.
Established in 1956, Mount Bethel is one of several wineries in wine country owned by the Post family.
Deeply rooted in German/Swiss Catholic heritage, the family is the pioneer of winemaking in Arkansas.
The winery makes a variety of wines including Merlot, Cabernet, Cynthiana, Muscat, Concord, Muscadine, and more.
But they are well-known for the selections of fruit wines, including wild plum, blueberry, strawberry, blackberry, peach, and the wildly popular elderberry wine. Also, the winery boasts having the best Port wine in the region.
With so many selections, it's guaranteed that you'll find something that you like. Of course, you can sample the wines inside the wine tasting cellar.
It's a small, intimate hand-dug cellar that allows for a one-of-a-kind experience with the owners.
While at the winery, you'll get to take a tour and learn the history of the family as well as winemaking in Arkansas.
History buffs and wine enthusiasts will appreciate the tour as it will reveal lots of treasures along the way.
The winery is housed on the same property where the Post family lived and got its start in winemaking. So, there are tons of old family pictures, memorabilia, old machinery, and more to see.
There's no doubt that by the end of the tour, you'll have a new appreciation for winemaking in Arkansas.
And of course, after you purchase a few bottles of wine, be sure to grab a gift from the store to remember this unique winery in Arkansas' wine country.
