If you’ve been on the Arkansas’ wine trail, chances are, you’ve visited Chateau Aux Arc Vineyards and Winery. Tucked in the countryside of the picturesque town of Altus, this award-winning, small-town winery in Arkansas is perfect for a day trip. Wine lovers will be delighted by the wide selection of wines as well as the gorgeous stone walkways, lovely flowers, picnic tables, and more, surrounding the winery. In my opinion, Chateau Aux Arc could arguably be the best winery in Arkansas and locals absolutely love it.
With a name like Chateau Aux Arc (pronounced Ozark), you'd believe that you're in a faraway vineyard in the picturesque countryside of France.
But au contraire, this charming vineyard is right here in Altus, the wine capital of Arkansas.
Opened in 2001, this 50-acre retreat is the only vineyard in Arkansas that is owned and operated by a woman.
Initially, the winery began as a small operation, but through the efforts of winegrower/owner Audrey House, it has blossomed into an award-winning winery.
Locals and visitors alike, love basking in the pretty scenes of the winery that's nestled in the countryside of wine country.
Bring a picnic basket or a blanket and enjoy a surreal wine tasting experience on the vineyard overlooking the countryside.
Inside, you'll find a welcoming space, perfect for wine tasting as well as for interacting with family and new friends.
Also, there is a gift shop, so be sure to purchase something special to take home with you.
What makes this winery unique is that it was the first Chardonnay vineyard in Arkansas. Plus, it's one of the largest producers of Cynthiana grapes, the official state grape of our state.
So, it's no surprise that this delightful winery has won countless awards for its selections of 100% Arkansas grown wines. And as you can see, there is lots to choose from.
No matter what type of wine you're into, chances are, you'll find something that you'll love at Chateau Aux Arc.
Of course, you can't go wrong with a glass or 2 or 4 (no judgment) of the White Zinfandel...
...or perhaps try a full-bodied wine like the Dragonfly Red featuring Malbec, Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, and more.
Personally, this would be my go-to bottle, it sounds hearty and divine.
The winery is a great spot for a girls' trip or a special occasion that you might be celebrating.
Be sure to pack a picnic basket with your favorite snacks and treats and enjoy a lovely day along the countryside at this small town winery in Arkansas.
