Watering holes have been popular here in Arizona since before statehood was even achieved. One bar, the Palace Restaurant & Saloon, dates back all the way back to 1877. Given its gruesome history that includes both fires and murder, it's safe to assume the place is crawling with spirits. Even the investigators from the TV show "Ghost Adventures" had trouble keeping evil at bay!
Arizona didn't become a state until 1912, but Palace Saloon dates back to 1877. This was the temporary building after a devastating fire struck Prescott in 1900.
Looking at the saloon today, you'd never know of its past riddled with flames, illegal gambling, and even murder. Despite undergoing several extensive renovations, memories of the building's tragic and gruesome history can never be erased.
Given the series of unfortunate events that took place here, it's no surprise the place is chock-full of restless spirits. Guests have reported everything from unexplained footsteps to objects falling for no apparent reason.
Once you walk through these heavy, ominous swinging doors, there's no turning back.
The lively atmosphere is anything but haunting, however, the ruckus is exactly what helps the specters blend in. Don't be surprised if you feel a tap on your shoulder, only to turn around and see nary a soul standing there.
Grab a seat at the original bar, which has graced the saloon since it opened. Perhaps malevolent entities use this old piece of mahogany as a conduit to manifest their energy.
A glass of Arizona's finest liquor should help relax you amidst all the spookiness. One sip and you'll understand why Prohibition did little to inhibit patrons from drinking.
You'll find the saloon at 120 S Montezuma St., Prescott, AZ 86303… if you dare to enter, that is.
