Traveling through Oak Creek Canyon on State Route 89A is an Arizona must-do. The canyon walls tower overhead and the trees lining the creek create a verdant environment that will simply wow you. While there are plenty of areas where you can stop at to enjoy the scenery but why not enjoy a meal or fresh cup of coffee while you’re at it? Here’s a look at one fantastic restaurant on the road that’s the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the views!
Indian Gardens Cafe & Market is located just four miles north of Sedona, seated right along the edge of the highway. While the restaurant/market isn’t exactly hidden, it certainly feels secluded between the trees.
The restaurant sits across the street from a historic marker that notes the first American settlement in the canyon.
In 1876, Jim Thompson built a homestead in this area and began cultivating a garden abandoned after a band of Tonto Apache were captured. Thompson later called the area Indian Gardens and more settlers began establishing homesteads in the area.
The restaurant’s building was constructed in 1947 and has operated as a general store, gas station, and various other uses over the years.
These days it’s a great little restaurant and market where you can find delicious meals, incredible coffee, and supplies for your trip or souvenirs.
While eating indoors is an option, you should take advantage of the outdoor seating!
Bistro tables with blankets are dotted around the property and all the trees provide a lovely shaded area that is simply beautiful.
The restaurant serves fresh, healthy meals for breakfast and lunch. Expect your plate to be a colorful array of local, organic ingredients.
The coffee here is divine! They serve a variety of drinks--from a basic black coffee for you purists to tasty iced lattes for warmer days.
The beans are roasted locally by Firecreek Coffee Company!
