1. The Bake Shop, 194 Olympic Mountain Loop, Girdwood
Probably the most famous bakery in the state, The Bake Shop has been keeping people fueled for hitting the mountains for over 40 years. Fresh bread, delicious cinnamon rolls, and a variety of breakfast options including sourdough pancakes with historic Alaskan sourdough from the Gold Rush Era. After skiing, pop by for an endless bowl of homemade soup or a one of their special sandwiches. This place has remained classy, classic, clean and delicious since 1974. Enjoy an Alaskan tradition and follow the crowd to The Bake Shop. You won't be disappointed.
2. Lulu's Bread and Bagels, 364 Old Chena Pump Road, Fairbanks
Lulu's is a delicious deli featuring fresh baked bread and New York style bagel. Sandwiches, coffee, breakfast and baked goods draw many local residents. On the weekends, the Brioche Cinnamon Rolls are a hit.
3. Two Sisters Bakery, 233 East Bunnell Avenue,
Homer
This place is iconic in Alaska. Beat the grey, stormy days in Homer by heading to this bustling cafe and bakery. Excellent coffee, fresh pastries and bread accompany the exquisite cuisine at the cafe. Two Sisters has also expanded into a Bed & Bakery for your lodging needs oceanside in Homer.
4. Magpie's Bakery, Mobile Food Truck, Valdez
Magpie's Bakery, a long time staple at their indoor location, have now moved into a mobile bus that is open all summer. They make amazing baked goods like the bear claw pictured, as well as making sandwiches on their homemade bread for adventurers heading out for the day.
5. Flying Squirrel Bakery, 26205 South Talkeetna Spur Road,
Talkeetna
The Flying Squirrel is a local eatery that does it all. A wood-fired oven churns out breads and is open for special pizza nights. This bakery has baked goods for your sweet tooth and a cafe that takes care of everything else. Espresso, wedding cakes, breakfast, lunch and dinner are all hot and delicious at this hometown bakery.
6. Fire Island Rustic Bakeshop, Two locations: 1343 G Street & 2530 East 16th Avenue, Anchorage
Anchorage's favorite artisan bakery is really focused on just baked goods. Making small batches of rustic breads and sweets, this place prides itself on fresh, creative daily loaves, scones, tarts and muffins.
7. Marlo's Bakery, 2034 Airport Way, Fairbanks
Marlo's is the newest bakery in Fairbanks and offers fine baked goods. From classic French croissants to original creations like a beet muffin stuffed with goat cheese, you'll be sure to find something to your taste. They also make Filipino-style Dinner Rolls and sweets.
8. The Point - Ketchikan, 25 Jefferson Way Suite 102, Ketchikan
*Please note, The Point is permanently closed. This interesting cafe is an art gallery and coffee shop, cafe and bakery all in one. Homemade bread is turned into mouthwatering sandwiches. Homemade soups, sweets, and cookies keep the chill away at this Ketchikan favorite.
9. Sourdough Express Cafe & Bakery, 1316 Ocean Drive, Homer
*Please note, Sourdough Express is permanently closed. Sourdough Express is a cafe featuring local and organic fresh foods. They offer breakfast all day and are open from 7 AM - 5 PM daily with fresh breads and baked goods, pancakes and all kinds of breakfast delights. Come get your baked goods with a side of peace and love at this spot, a Homer favorite since 1982.
10. Sugar Mama's, 382 5th Ave, Skagway
*Please note, Sugar Mama's is permanently closed. This is a cute little bakery on the main drag in Skagway. They feature cupcakes of many varieties and some gluten free treats. This tiny place is also a gift shop and a friendly place to stop in on a walk in Skagway.
11. The Flying Dutchman, Edit
