Who doesn't love nachos? Over the years, nachos have become such a popular dish, especially at some of Alabama's top Mexican restaurants. The greatest thing about nachos is they can be ordered in many different ways. They can also be enjoyed as an appetizer or entree at most restaurants, including El Barrio. For information about El Barrio and their famous nachos, take a look below.
El Barrio is an award-winning restaurant that's located in downtown Birmingham, Alabama.
Since opening for business, this restaurant's multi-regional, Mexican-inspired cuisine has attracted countless customers from all across the state and beyond.
El Barrio's extensive menu includes a variety of Mexican food favorites, including nachos. However, these aren't your typical nachos. Instead, they're Plantain Nachos, which consist of plantain ribbons instead of traditional tortilla chips. Recently, Eat This, Not That! named them the best nachos in Alabama.
In addition to plantain ribbons, these unique nachos consist of roasted pork, pickled jalapenos, ancho chile, cotija, and lime crema.
Many people are unsure about these nachos because of this combination of ingredients. However, after one bite, most of them are hooked.
For something a bit lighter, you can also order plantain chips with a side of El Barrio's delicious homemade salsa.
If you're still unsure about trying El Barrio's Plantain Nachos, specifically because of the plantains, no worries. The restaurant also offers traditional tortilla chips you can enjoy with a variety of dips.
For more information about El Barrio, you can view the restaurant's website here and its Facebook page here. Hours:
Tuesday-Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday-Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sunday-Monday, closed.
