KayBri Desserts At Southern Venue has the best desserts near Montgomery, Alabama – and a mind-boggling array of options. While you may not be surprised, given it houses a bakery, the business' weekends-only restaurant has more desserts than main dishes on its menu.
The restaurant is located in the unincorporated southwest Alabama community of Furman, which is just north of the tiny town of Pine Apple, pop. 133. I will take a moment to sidebar what you may already be thinking: Pine Apple seems to fit better than Furman for a dessert place. And while sometimes people (and GPS systems) fold them together, they're separate. Just know you'll find it 32 miles northwest of Greenville and 53 miles southwest of Montgomery.
Are you ready to dig into all of the menu options? Be sure to save room for dessert.
Founder and Lead Baker Jodi Harris founded KayBri Desserts after baking for family and friends for many years. The business is named for her and husband Quinton's two daughters, Kayla and Brianna.
In 2020, the Harrises expanded the bakery into its current location - a remodeled former residence. Over the two years that followed, they grew the business into additional service lines, offering catering and venue rentals throughout the week and opening the restaurant on weekends.
As for the lunch and dinner menu options, the Sunday Specials are a big hit and rotate by the week. First Sundays mean catfish plates, followed by smoked Boston butt sandwiches the next Sunday, friend chicken tenderloins the next, and BBQ ribs to close out the month. For months with five Sundays, the rotation reverts to the crispy, golden catfish.
While the regular menu is limited, you'll find a favorite among classics. There are two salads, four hotdog options, a basic burger offered five ways (regular, cheese, bacon, double patty with cheese, double patty with bacon and cheese), and nachos and cheese with the option of jalapeños. As for sides, you can choose fries, onion rings, a side salad, cheese sticks, or fried okra. Big props for the inclusion of fried okra as a standard side.
With the word "desserts" in the name, we understand you may not need telling that the main thing to remember here is to ask about the desserts of the day. If you're just popping on a weekend, what's in the cooler and bakery cases could be just about any confection you imagine.
If you want something specific, you can order from the bakery menu in advance. The options are almost infinite and show Harris' versatility. Take the cakes and cupcakes. There are a dozen standard flavors of batter and six for frosting for the cupcakes and cakes. In other words, that's 72 different combinations before you even consider custom fillings, toppings, or other special orders.
You also can order 10 different types of pound cakes and five types of cheesecakes. Plus if you commit to a half-dozen minimum order, you can get waffle cones filled with cheesecake chunks swirled with whipped cream and topped with strawberries and strawberry glaze. And If you have a type of cake you don't see on the menu, ask and you may be in luck.
Moving beyond cakes to other bakery favorites, you can order Harris' signature cinnamon rolls by the dozen in large or small roll sizes and with a choice of vanilla glaze, strawberry cream cheese glaze, or a turtle glaze made with chocolate, caramel, and pecans.
On occasion, the cooler almost glows with cups full of comforting and creamy banana pudding. Keep in mind that while you may find any of these options on the weekends, remember that your best bet is to call ahead during the week to place an order.
