Did he tame an alligator with his bare hands? The mystery only deepens when you visit this waterfront restaurant in Florida.
Whiskey Joes Bar & Grill in Florida is a laidback restaurant offering up cold drinks, a relaxed, beach atmosphere, and tons of local fun.
With an island-inspired vibe, people can pull up by kayak, jet ski, or boat and start sipping on Pina Coladas as the sun dips from the sky.
But perhaps what’s more fascinating than the views while your toes are in the sand, is the legend surrounding Whiskey Joe that inspires this hotspot.
Whiskey Joe was said to have been a renowned sailor, an adventurer, an alligator tamer, and a hurricane wrangler all rolled in one.
As the legend goes, Whiskey Joe sailed the open seas scouring for new flavors and spices. After a hurricane blew Joe into Tampa one fall morning, it was here he decided to open up an eatery.
However, after building and rebuilding his restaurant, Whiskey Joe mysteriously disappeared, never to be heard from again. Some say he left to continue his adventures, while others assume he’s off discovering new flavors.
While we may never know what happened to Whiskey Joe, one thing is for sure, we’re thankful for the World Famous Barefoot Tiki Bar and 40+ tiki cocktails offered here.
