Is it really any surprise? But honestly, Florida is a pretty phenomenal place to retire, not just because of the sun, sand, and surf, but because the weather is darn near perfect year-round and the small beach town communities are as welcoming as ever. According to Money-Rates.com, Florida is the highest-ranking of all the states for people to retire in 2020. They took a few factors into consideration when making this discovery, which we'll outline below.
Florida is the highest-ranking state in the entire country for places to retire in 2020. While it’s no surprise to many, it also ranked number one last year for Money-Rates.com, too.
Truth be told, Florida has long since been a much-coveted place to retire in the world, especially for people ages 65 and older.
However, there are a few reasons why Florida was determined to be the best place to retire, starting with healthcare conditions.
Money-Rates.com used figures from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) on life expectancy for those ages 65 and older, plus nursing-home capacity, and overall healthcare cost.
When studying the effectiveness, affordability, and availability, Florida ranked quite high across the board.
Additionally, personal security was a factor, as well-meaning that statistics regarding violence, property crime, and physical safety were taken into account.
Then, the local economy was considered, which meant employment stats from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as well as property tax information, were both used to measure the affordability of retiring as well as how strong economically each state was.
Weather conditions were also factored into the mix, which meant average temperatures and extremes used from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), as well as data used by the Universal Ecological Fund.
Finally, popularity was a component, too — meaning that they also took into account how popular each state was with older residents based on U.S. Census data.
Once they added all of the above-mentioned factors into the mix, then sifted through all the data, there was a clear answer — Florida is the best place to retire in the country in 2020.
