The Bok Tower Gardens in Florida are an impressive attraction that has been delighting state residents for nearly a century.
This garden and sanctuary is located in Lake Wales and is comprised of more than 250-acres of natural beauty.
Construction for the gardens and giant singing tower started back in the 1920s when the editor of Ladies Home Journal Edward W. Bok and his wife Mary Louise Curtis Bok were spending winters in the area.
The aim of the construction was to transform the arid, desolate space into “a spot of beauty second to none in the country.”
Fast-forward almost a century later and visitors are still able to explore the acres of tropical plants, pines, oaks, palms, camellias, ferns, lilies, and so much more.
Another impressive part of the space, and the true centerpiece to the gardens, is the Singing Tower—a 60-bell carillon set over 200-feet tall.
Fun fact: when the tower’s construction was finally completed in 1929, Edward and his wife had a dedication ceremony led by President Calvin Coolidge!
While the interior of the tower isn’t open to the public, there are recitals that take place daily from the 60-bell set.
Come spend an afternoon exploring the gardens and seeing just how magical this area has become over the years.
