Every year, Wyomingites turn on the TV and get a glimpse of what the holiday season is like outside of our little slice of paradise. Crowded parades, long lines at the mall, Santas in every department store, and tons and tons of expensive presents piling up by the tree. Luckily, the holiday season (and winter in general) in Wyoming don't really look like that. First of all, in order to have Mall Santas, you have to have malls... and there aren't too many of those around here! Instead of posing for cheesy photos, Wyomingites tend to celebrate their winter downtime with family in a different way... by spending quality time experiencing this great state. If you're looking for some winter adventures in Wyoming, here are 11 great ideas!
1. Get off the grid.
It might sound crazy to go camping in the winter, but if you head to Sinks Canyon State Park, you'll find their year-round yurts are all you need to stay cozy and spend some quality time without the distractions of everyday life.
2. Hit the trails
There are thousands of snowmobile trails in Wyoming, so track down an outfitter who will take you out on them! There's nothing like the thrill of speeding down the trails when they're covered in fresh powder.
3. Hit the slopes!
Skiing is always fun, and there are several ski areas in Wyoming that you can visit. From the fancy Jackson Hole Ski Area to the Snowy Mountains, you'll find a spot that fits your budget - and your preferred atmosphere.
4. Spot some wildlife
Head out on a wildlife safari in any of our protected forests and parks. It's so interesting to see how the wildlife adapts to our freezing temperatures and harsh weather, and there's nothing like taking in a wild, quiet winter scene.

Snow King Mountain is home to a thrilling mountain coaster, and you'll love the views from this ride in the winter! Visit the Mountain for a ton of family-friendly winter adventures in Wyoming.
6. Take a dip in a hot spring.
Hot springs are all the rage in Wyoming - it's the one way we can get warm! Visit the ones closest to you, or make a trip to Thermopolis, Saratoga, or Granite Hot Springs to visit the most popular ones around.
7. Try out a Fat Bike
Fat Biking is a new way to hit the trails in Wyoming when they're snow covered. These cool bikes can be rented from outfitters in various mountain towns, and you'll have a blast figuring out your newest adventure vehicle.
8. Visit the most amazing Christmas Tree Forest in Wyoming
The Hemi Lighted Forest of Hope is one of the best light displays in all of Wyoming. Plus, the forest is put together to give kids who have endured through brain surgery their own winter wonderland! This beautiful display is worth visiting and the stories of each child representing by a tree may move you to tears.
9. Go dashing through the snow
Spring Creek Ranch shows off Wyoming in one of the coolest ways ever - from a horse-drawn sleigh! Take a ride through our winter wonderland and have the time of your life this year.

Grand Targhee is home to the biggest and baddest sledding hill in Wyoming, but you don't have to head to the mountains to find a great hill. Just head to your favorite neighborhood spot and enjoy the wind in your hair as you relive your childhood memories.
11. Give ice climbing a try at the friendliest winter festival ever, in Cody
The friendliest festival in Wyoming is the Cody Ice Climbing Festival. Whether you're an experienced climber, a little rusty, or you've never climbed before, you'll find a great community dedicated to one of the most exciting spots in the Rockies. The town turns into a mountaineering wonderland in February.
