The Wisconsin Dells are a magical place when you're a kid. It's miles of entertainment and food and waterslides. Many a midwestern family has spent at least a day or two in this vacation destination.
But what if told you to leave the kids at home and plan an adults-only Dells vacation?
Even (especially) in winter, there's plenty of grown up fun to be had. With off-season rates, scads less people and proximity in its favor, there's no good reason not to plan a quick little weekend away.
Treat yourself
There are six spas in and around the Dells that offer everything from simple facials and massages to more inclusive stays and treatments. Get away from it all for the ultimate relaxation.
Perfect year round, but don't tell me you don't long to swim in that heated infinity pool.
Hit the slopes
Both Cascade Mountain and Christmas Mountain are nearby and they offer skiing, snowboarding, tubing and more.
Giddy up
There are two horse ranches in the Dells and they, too, are open year round. Take a horse out on the trail in the summer or sign up for a horse-drawn carriage ride through the amazing Dells scenery.
Try out some new shoes
Mirror Lake State Park offers tons of different hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing trails. Gorgeous during the day, even better on one of their candlelit nights in winter.
Get your rock on (or country, or comedy)
This Dells theater is hot to an array of different concerts and events. From Kenny Rogers to Winger to Jay Leno, they've got something coming up to keep everyone happy.
Refuel
Whether it's a Paul Bunyan breakfast, a classic Wisconsin Supper Club or a brewpub, the Dells has a great food scene. Plan out your meals and give yourself the energy to enjoy your vacation.
Unleash your inner child
Let's not pretend that you wouldn't be sad if you went to the Dells and didn't do a little water sliding. There are tons of options for indoor waterparks and if you're strategic and plan to splash down while the families are at dinner or after bed time, you should be able to do it in relative peace. And never underestimate the appeal of a swim-up bar.
Test your luck
If the weather gets particularly nasty, you can always while away some hours in the casino.
Zip it
There are a couple of zip line options in the Dells and they are open year round. Strap in and take in some gorgeous scenery as you descend.
Swing away
This is winter, so golf is probably out of the question right now. But it's never too early to start planning ahead. There are three championship courses in and around the Dells. A gift certificate might be a good holiday gift, right?
