We don't always live up to the stereotypes here in Wisconsin, but one I think we relish is that we're thrifty. We love a good deal or sale and we don't like over-paying for things. Maybe that's why our thrift stores are so great. We donate our things and keep the cycle going.

We're also lucky to have some unusual, quirky and awesome thrift stores. You never know what you might find second-hand here in Wisconsin. Here are 14 places you should check out if your day is made by finding a great bargain:

1. UW Swap Shop - Verona

An unconventional choice, but In my opinion, this is the biggest hidden gem in the state. You never know what they'll be selling. Sometimes it's leftover athletic gear, sometimes it's picnic tables. The Facebook page is worth the follow for all the amazing descriptions they come up with and the weird stuff they unearth. They've got a fancy facility in Verona that's open to the public Tuesdays 8:00am-2:00pm, Fridays 8:00am-2:00pm and 2nd Saturdays 8:00am-12:00pm. 2. Retique - Milwaukee

When Goodwill of SEWI announced a boutique store, no one quite knew what to expect, but Retique is the kind of curated thrifting you wish you could find more places. The prices are slightly elevated from standard Goodwill prices, but not by much. Some of my favorite clothes have been found at this store in Milwaukee's Third Ward.

3. Agrace Thrift Store - Madison

The staff here is super friendly, it's always clean and there are treasures to be found - what else could you want from a good thrift store?

4. Good Steward Resale Shop - LaCrosse

Customers only complaint about this place is that it's too small. They love what they find here and the prices are excellent. Located at 2552 Rose St, La Crosse, WI 54603.

5. Door County Traders on Third - Sturgeon Bay

This place is deceivingly big, with a second floor. As a consignment store, the prices are slightly higher, but still really thrifty. It's exactly the sort of charming second-hand store you'd imagine in Door County.

6. Hope Bargain Center - Eau Claire

Big selection, friendly staff and great prices make this a great place to thrift in Eau Claire.

7. Lazy Jane's Junk - Madison

This quirky little shop just fits right in on Willy Street. You don't find a new wardrobe here, but you will find all kinds of unusual knick knacks and things to decorate your house.

8. Milo Milo - Appleton

Please note, Milo Milo is no longer in business.

Head here if you're looking for unique furniture and decorations. Set up in little room vignettes, it's easy to see how the pieces would fit into your own home.

9. Bargains Unlimited of Sister Bay

With super-reasonable prices and additional sale, you'll want to bring an extra suitcase just for all the goodies you'll score here. Folks say the dishes are always worth looking through.

10. Earth Exchange - Superior

Three levels, large, open space and clothing organized by size and color make this thrift store a shopper's paradise.

11. WELS Bargain Center - Milwaukee

With two Milwaukee-area locations, you will never be short on cheap buys from these two wonderful stores. Located at 5005 W Howard Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53220 and 8401 W Lisbon Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53222.

12. BHA Resale Store Unlimited - Madison

Regulars say you can haggle and a friendly shop attendant might even show you some of the backstock. Folks travel from a ways away to check out their eclectic supply.

13. Recycled Sally's - Baraboo

This consignment shop does the resale thing right - a clean, organized store that doesn't take itself too seriously. Make sure you like the on Facebook to see new additions as well as sales.

14. Style Xchange - Green Bay

Perfectly marketed to a younger crowd, this is a great place to get name-brand and stylish clothes for your kids without breaking the bank. In March and April, they even have a Prom XChange.
