A drive doesn’t have to be long to be truly epic. In Wisconsin’s Peninsula State Park, you’ll find a short tour that’s one of the most beautiful drives in Wisconsin. It’s called Skyline Road, and it offers some magical views of the park. Even though this road is only a few miles long, you’ll want to take this drive when you’re in Door County.
Peninsula State Park is one of the most popular parks in Wisconsin and when you visit, you’ll see why. It’s located right on the lakeshore between Fish Creek and Ephraim - and it’s gorgeous.
The park was founded back in 1909, and originally, the land was in private hands. While it’s now wild and undeveloped, it’s still laced with old roads.
The park has it all. It’s home to a gorgeous old lighthouse, a soft sand beach, an accessible lookout tower, a stunning golf course, 150-foot bluffs, and eight miles of scenic shoreline.
The park is filled with scenic places but it’s hard to top Skyline Road. It’s just three miles long, but it will take you through the woods, up to some gorgeous vistas.
One popular stop along Skyline Road is Sven’s Bluff. You can see for miles from this scenic spot. If you’re up for a hike, there are some trails nearby.
If you skip all the views, you could travel this road in about 10 minutes, but if you’re like most people, you’ll want to take time to enjoy the scenery and views. You can also walk or bike the road, if you don’t mind a little elevation.
Peninsula State Park is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. A vehicle admission sticker is required on all motor vehicles stopping in the park. Learn more on the Peninsula State Park website. You might work up a little hunger taking in all of this scenery. If so, you're in luck - nearby, you can get an ice cream cone with one of the state’s best views.
