Traveling back in time may be impossible, but there are several places where you can experience the past – and the Christmas at Old World Wisconsin celebration is one of them. Home for the Holidays will give you a peek at what the most wonderful time of year was like centuries ago. Take a look:
Located in Eagle, Old World Wisconsin is an open-air museum that depicts what life was like in 19th century Wisconsin.
With 600 acres and over 50 immersive exhibits, it has a lot to offer year-round. But December is an especially good time to visit because that’s when the Old World Christmas celebration is going on.
Held for just six days, this year’s Home for the Holidays is scheduled for December 2-3, 9-10, and 16-17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Offering a unique glimpse into the past, the Holly Jolly event invites visitors to jingle all the way back to the 1800s.
During the celebration, Old World’s Crossroads Village is decked in holiday greenery, making for a magical setting. But there’s much more to Old World Christmas than the setting.
Unlike many other holiday events, Home for the Holidays aims to highlight the holiday traditions brought to Wisconsin by immigrants.
Performances, including live music, carols, and stories about holiday traditions are just a few things attendees can enjoy at the celebration.
Hands-on activities, like making Vanocka, are also part of the festive fun.
There are horse-drawn sleigh rides, too, only adding to the holiday magic.
And, of course, Santa will be on hand. But Santa’s not the only special guest. Krampus, a mischievous holiday figure from European folklore, will also be at the holiday celebration.
The largest Yule Goat in North America can also be found at Old World Christmas – and is just one of the many great photo-ops.
