The Dells area in Wisconsin is full of amazing natural formations. Really, it is an embarrassment of riches. So it is easy to pass over one of the coolest parts of this area: Natural Bridge State Park. A natural bridge is exactly what it sounds like: a bridge that has formed naturally. What's truly incredible is that this place has amazed people for many, many centuries. There is evidence that Native Americans lived here, and there are stone markings to prove it. Head down to Sauk County and prepare to be amazed.
This park was established in 1973, with 530 total acres including 60 acres of a scientific area.
The rock is a soft sandstone, and it has carvings from ancient peoples - and more modern people.
The Rockshelter directly below the arch was used as a home by people throughout the centuries.
The sandstone was formed some 1.6 billion years ago.
The arch is 35 feet tall and 25 feet across.
