Some of the most beautiful views in Wisconsin can be found along the Mississippi River, and one community on the river has a view that’s simply spectacular. The little river town of Alma is home to a park with an incredible overlook. It’s the perfect place to take in the majesty of the country’s greatest river and it’s a place you have to experience. Here’s what you need to know about the beautiful Mississippi Overlook in Alma, Wisconsin.
Alma is a city with fewer than 800 people in western Wisconsin. It’s the county seat of Buffalo County and it has the motto, “Step into Living History.”
Alma has a charming little downtown with historic brick buildings and it draws a lot of tourists. It has a fishing attraction called the Great Alma Fishing Float and it has a museum that has a big collection of military arms and armor. The river provides a beautiful backdrop to life here.
But the most spectacular attraction can be found up the bluff, high above the city. Here’s where you’ll find a little city park called Buena Vista Park.
The park is a natural balcony that offers a panoramic view. You can see for several miles and the view includes the river’s backwaters and sand islands.
You can also take in a bird’s eye view of Mississippi River Lock and Dam No. 4, a huge structure that was built in 1935. It’s a major nesting ground for bald eagles.
Allow plenty of time to take this place in – time slips away as you watch the boats and barges slowly make their way up and down the Mississippi. It’s an experience you won’t forget!
For a small town, there’s plenty to do in Alma. It hosts some lively events, including Swiss Heritage Days in July, a Music & Arts Festival in September, and Christmas in Alma in December.
