Haunted roads in Wisconsin?! For some that's terrifying, for others exhilarating. Wisconsin certainly has its share of haunted places - you'll find stories of ghosts and other other-worldly beings in hotels, restaurants, schools and even on roads across the state. Here are 10 roads in Wisconsin that are pretty during the day... but you might want to avoid them after dark.
1. Jay Road, Boltonville
Drive along Jay Road in Washington County, and you might see the ghost of a jogger who plagues the area around Boltonville. She was the victim of a hit-and-run many years ago, and her body was never recovered from the swampy area where she was hit. Drivers report seeing a ghostly figure in a jogging suit who jogs right down the middle of the street. As the car approaches, the hazy woman turns and faces the car. Some say that she disappears just as she hits the hood of the car; others have experienced her head coming right through the windshield before she evaporates. Yikes, this may be the most haunted road in Wisconsin!
2. 25th Avenue, Clearlake
Moe Church and the nearby graveyard are said to be haunted by many spirits. On 25th Avenue, many fatal accidents have occurred due to the sudden appearance of ghosts, such as the woman carrying a baby, who appears on the side of the road and steps right in front of passing cars.
3. Church Street, Cottage Grove
Walk along this road through the wooded area near the intersection with Rinden Road, and you might hear a man calling for his dog. You might see the dog running from his owner - though both are no longer alive.
4. Horsehoe Bay Road, Egg Harbor
This gorgeous road near Green Bay is said to be haunted by a man wearing a plaid, flannel shirt, accompanied by his dog. You might even see him in broad daylight - hunting rifle slung on his shoulder, whistling as he walks down the side of the road. As he turns toward you when you pass, you'll see that he has no face. This road in Egg Harbor may just be one of the most haunted streets in Wisconsin.
5. East Dyreson Road, McFarland
You don't want to walk across this old bridge near McFarland at night. People report hearing cries and screams. If you're driving, an old, black car might suddenly appear behind you and get right up to your bumper, as though it's going to ram you off the road into the water below. As its headlights fill your rearview window, the car suddenly disappears.
6. Eagle Road, Juneau
Tabor Cemetery is said to be haunted by many ghosts, some of whom wander along Eagle Road at night. An old man hobbles alongside the road, vanishing into thin air when your headlights hit him. Two small children play in the road late at night. As you slam on your brakes to avoid hitting them, they look up at you...and then disappear. If you enjoy a good scare, then check out this road, which is certainly one of the most haunted roads in Wisconsin. And also check out Eagle Road's haunted cemetery.
7. Paradise Road, Jefferson
The pretty woods surrounding Paradise Road are not as pleasant after dark. Drive along this road at night, and you might see hooded figures back in the trees. It has a pretty sweet little dairy farm worth a visit!
