Wisconsin's Door County has some incredible scenic beauty, and one trail offers an experience that's simply breathtaking. The Eagle Trail is not a flat and easy hike, but if you’re willing to take on rocky terrain and a few steps, you’ll be treated to some of Door County’s best views. Lace up your boots and get your camera ready – here’s what’s waiting for you on the Eagle Trail in Peninsula State Park
Eagle Trail is located in Peninsula State Park, a popular park in Door County that’s located along the lakeshore between Fish Creek and Ephraim. It’s one of the best hikes in Wisconsin!
The park draws thousands of visitors every year – it has bustling campgrounds, a historic lighthouse, a popular swimming beach, and more.
One of the most iconic areas of the park can be explored by Peninsula State Park’s Eagle Trail. The trail can be picked up next to the park’s reconstructed and accessible lookout tower.
This is an incredible hike that’s unlike any other in the state; but it’s not an easy stroll – be prepared for a bit of a challenge. From the trailhead, the trail descends a rather steep, 200-foot limestone bluff.
Stairs help with the descent but be prepared to encounter roots and rocky terrain. Use extra caution after rain, as sections can become a little slippery.
Hikers who take on the challenge will be rewarded with an incredible hike, however. You’ll encounter rocky caves and stunning vistas of the bay, including a marvelous view of Ephraim. Take your time to work your way through Eagle Trail in Peninsula State Park, and the experience will be one you won't soon forget!
The Eagle Trail in Peninsula State Park is about two miles in length but because of the terrain, allow for plenty of time to complete the hike. Learn more about the trail on the Peninsula State Park website.
Once you’ve conquered Eagle Trail, there are even more gorgeous trails to explore in this wild and beautiful Door County park.
