Ever wondered what Wisconsin was like decades ago? Well, you can find out at Chudnow Museum of Yesteryear. Boasting elaborate exhibits and detailed displays, a visit to the museum is truly like stepping back in time. Take a look:
From the outside, Chudnow Museum of Yesteryear in Milwaukee looks like a typical building.
However, it’s anything but – and that’s because inside, you’ll find a portal to the past.
The museum was opened in 1991 by Avrum M. Chudnow. But Chudnow didn’t just open the museum; he also used his personal collection of early 20th-century Americana to fill it.
Offering a unique glimpse into the past, the museum’s collection contains over 275,000 items!
As varied as it vast, the collection includes items from the 1910s through the 1940s, with a focus on the 1920s and 1930s.
Described as “extensive and eclectic,” the array of artifacts includes a little bit of everything – from vintage games and toys to clothing and more.
It’s not just the expansive collection of memorabilia that makes the museum so amazing, though.
There’s also the museum’s layout, which is designed to look like Milwaukee of yesteryear – complete with storefronts…
…and a doctor’s office, which is a nod to Dr. Joseph J. Eisenberg, who once owned the building that now houses the museum.
With 3,000 square feet and two floors to explore, you’ll want to give yourself plenty of time when visiting the museum. Typically, visitors spend about 1.5 hours touring the museum.
Can’t make it to the museum in person? No problem; you can still enjoy all it has to offer via a virtual tour. Click here to start your virtual tour now. For more information, call the Chudnow Museum of Yesteryear at (414) 273-1680. You can also visit the museum’s website or Facebook page.
