If you're looking for something fun to do in West Virginia, a little (or a lot of) rain shouldn't stand in your way. While our state is known for its outdoorsy activities, there are still plenty of fun things to do inside. Here are a few things you can do on even the rainiest of days.
1. Go for a climb.
At one of the state’s indoor climbing gyms, like Climbing New Heights in Martinsburg (pictured) or eNeRGy Rock Gym in Charleston.
2. Go bowling.
At any of the bowling alleys in the state, like Mountaineer Bowling Lanes in Bluefield (pictured).
3. Go ice skating.
Located next to the Shops and Trace Fork, the Memorial Ice Arena in South Charleston is available for groups and individual skaters. Admission is $8 and $2 for skate rentals.
4. Go to a museum.
Like the Kruger Street Toy and Train Museum. This museum in downtown Wheeling invites you to come and relive your childhood with its exhibits of toys and trains from every generation. General admission is $10 per adult,
5. Paint your own masterpiece.
Uncork & Create (in Charleston and Huntington) offers a painting class that allows you to paint your own masterpiece and enjoy an adult beverage if you want (BYO).
6. Stop by a bookstore or library and read a book.
May I recommend Taylor Books in downtown Charleston?
7. Check the work of local artists at Tamarack.
Come shop and support some of West Virginia’s best artists at Tamarack in Beckley.
8. Go shopping at the mall.
Like the Charleston Town Center Mall (pictured), the Huntington Mall in Barboursville or Crossroads Mall in Mountain Hope.
9. If you’re feeling brave, take a tour of the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum.
There are both heritage and ghost tours available daily at this reportedly haunted former asylum/hospital in Weston.
10. Go to Valley Worlds of Fun in Fairmont.
The area’s only family entertainment center, according to its website. Indoor activities include laser tag, bowling, and an arcade.
How many of these fun indoor activities have you tried? Which one was your favorite? If I left anything off this list that you think should be included, please let me know in the comments.
