Great news, guys! Our favorite West Virginia train company, Mountain Rail (also known as Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railroad and including Cass Scenic Railroad) is looking to reopen for the season soon with a partial calendar of safe, socially distant train rides!
With plenty of fun options extending all the way from now through October, you'll definitely be able to find a train ride that matches your interests.
As for Covid-19 concerns, several new protocols are in place to keep customers safe. Masks are encouraged on these train rides, and cars are only filled to 60% capacity to enable social distancing. Additionally, the railroad staff are taking extra cleaning precautions between rides.
So with those details all taken care of, the hardest part left for you to do is to pick your train.
There's the Cheat Mountain Salamander...
...or the Durbin Rocket...
...or the New Tygert Flyer Train, which takes you right past High Falls...
...or the Wild West Train or Mountain Explorer Dinner Train or Murder Mystery Wine Train....
...or the Cass Scenic Railroad.
Of course, not all of these options will be back up and running right away, but check the schedule to see what's available and when! For the month of July, the folks at Mountain Rail are offering trips on the Durbin Rocket and on the Cass Scenic Railroad. Additional trip options are on the schedule starting in August.
Here's more information on the currently available Bald Knob trip; here's the scoop on the Durbin Rocket. For more information and to book a train ride, visit the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad website.
Or, if you can't make it to the various depots in person this year, the folks at Mountain Rail have provided virtual tours of most of their train routes, watchable here.
Which of these trains have you ridden? Which one was your favorite experience?
