As the holiday season goes into full swing, there is no shortage of holiday themed "villages," generously decorated with thousands of Christmas lights. But there is one place in Huntington that is not just a faux village for a few weeks each year, but an actual 19th century village that operates year-round. But it is arguably most magical during Christmastime.
Heritage Farm Museum & Village, located at 3300 Harvey Road in Huntington, is a replica of a typical Appalachian village during the 19th century. It has several events throughout the year, celebrating various aspects of 19th century life, but it is the last event of the year that is the most popular.
There are many booths and stores that sell Christmas-themed items and goodies, all manned by Heritage Farm employees dressed in various holiday-themed clothes.
Along the street, a 19th century carriage passes by with Mr. and Mrs. Clause themselves, waving at the visitors and handing out treats to the kids.
There are also many things to see and do at the village. There is a live nativity scene, a petting zoo, visits with santa, baked goods, special gifts and many authentic period artifacts to view and enjoy. You can even check out a 19th century general store and several museums while there.
The great thing about this village is that it is more than just a Christmas themed venue. It can be visited all year round for anyone interested in a unique and different way to spend an afternoon. For more information, including hours of operation, visit their official website here.
