History is all around us here in Virginia. In fact, it's even possible to set foot inside a store that's been in business for over 100 years. The Floyd Country Store opened its doors in 1910 and has since become a staple of the southwest Virginia community. In addition to serving as a general store filled with supplies and pantry staples, this spot is also a lively hub of dancing and live music. So if you live anywhere near Floyd, VA, and have been searching for "Country stores near me," then this is a spot you will want to seek out.
A gem of a destination in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Floyd's Country Store has existed for over a century. In 1910, a business by the name of Farmer’s Supply opened its doors, and the building has been serving residents and visitors alike ever since.
Walking into this historical landmark is a bit like stepping back in time. Barrels of old-fashioned candy will take you back to simpler days. Which I have to say is the best way to sell candy.
Of course, plenty has been updated in the past 100 years. Today, the general store features a bakery and cafe where you'll find the most delicious food.
From made-from-scratch baguettes to colorful donuts, you really never know what treats are in store!
If you have a bit more time, be sure to settle in for a made-to-order sandwich, which will surely hit the spot.
And while the this general store is famous for its history, it's the Friday Night Jamboree that really puts this place on the map.
The Jamboree is a musical tradition that has stood the test of time. Local and regional musicians perform on the store's historic stage from 6:30 until 10 p.m., and all are invited to dance and sing along.
So while the Floyd Country Store is one of the oldest general stores in the region, it's also one of the most unique gathering places in the entire state.
