At the corner of Gold Brook Road and Covered Bridge Road you’ll find the Gold Brook Bridge.
This bridge is better known as "Emily’s Bridge," named after the ghost who haunts the bridge and frightens visitors and locals alike.
There are many stories of how Emily died. One tale is that Emily was to meet her lover on the bridge in the middle of the night to run away and elope. Since her parents didn’t approve of him, they met in secret.
When he didn’t show up, Emily was so distraught she hung herself from the rafters.
Another legend tells the story of the day when Emily was to marry the man of her dreams, she went to the church only to be jilted at the altar.
In a frenzy, Emily took her family’s wagon and took off in search of her would be groom. While traveling at a feverish pace, she lost control of the horses and didn’t make the turn onto the bridge in time; she went over the bank and died in the rocky brook below.
It is interesting to note that there is no written historical evidence that Emily ever existed, and the first time the hauntings of the bridge were mentioned came in 1968 when a high school student wrote a paper on the bridge.
The student reportedly used a Ouija board on the bridge and a spirit named Emily channeled themselves through the board.
Others have claimed that their Ouija boards also spoke to the spirit who presented themself as Emily, who said she was killed on the bridge by her fiancé’s mother.
But the eeriness about the bridge doesn’t stop at the stories. Many people claim to have encountered strange happenings at the bridge.
