It is a popular belief that Black Friday is all about going to the shops to get their holiday shopping done at rock bottom prices. However, to many people the day after thanksgiving is much more than box store sales. It's the annual lighting of the Christmas Tree on the Church Street Marketplace. This outdoor shopping area lights up to make a Christmas display in VT that brings holiday cheer to everyone.
Every year someone donates a giant Christmas Tree about 50 feet tall.
People gather from near and far to see the annual lighting of the tree at the top of Church Street.
And when those light turn on... Wow. It's a memory that will last a lifetime.
The day kicks off with a parade featuring the big man in red making a guest appearance.
But the tree with its thousands of colored LCD lights in shades of red, gold, tangerine, blue and green isn't the only thing lit up on this famous street.
The whole street lights up to make a special display.
Over 250,000 lights twinkle throughout the whole marketplace.
The store windows get all dressed up, too!
Which makes holiday shopping so much fun!
Church Street is gorgeous without the lights...
But around the holidays...
It's a twinkling wonderland.
Enjoy this light show on the famous cobblestone Church Street Marketplace.
Happy Holidays!
