Utah is known for many things including its national parks, incredible snow, and unique history. But there are two things that we truly love about Utah — winter sports and rodeo. So, if you are like us, we suggest you mark your calendars for February 10, 2024, for the Salt Lake City Winter Roundup. This winter event is when ski racing meets rodeo and it may just be a seasonal activity that you’ll be talking about for weeks to come.
The Salt Lake City Winter Roundup will kick off on Saturday, February 10, 2024, and you won’t want to miss it. It will be held in downtown SLC and it is expected to be a day to remember.
This festival, hosted by Visit Salt Lake, is designed to celebrate winter sports, art, and culture in SLC. And how are they celebrating? Well, with skijoring.
This will be the country’s first metropolitan skijoring event and it’ll be quite a sight. It will take place along the streets of downtown SLC.
Skijoring is a mixture of ski racing and rodeo. It is where a horse and rider pull a ski racer through a snowy course at high speeds.
Keep your eyes out for the brave individuals giving skijoring a shot. You may just recognize many names such as former Olympians like gold medalist Picabo Street.
Skijoring is just the beginning of the activities offered during this winter festival in SLC. Head to Abravanel Hall Plaza and visit The Village. Here, there will be fire pits to keep you warm, live music, performances, dance lessons, and more. You’ll also find several food trucks and vendors as well.
If you head to the Salt Chalet, between Salt Lake’s Visitor Center and the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, there will be curling lanes to practice your skills. There will also be art installations to admire with the winter sports theme as well.
Utah has many fabulous winter events but one that deserves a spot right at the top of your schedule is the Salt Lake City Winter Roundup. It’s a day featuring several of our favorite things in Utah.
