Midway is a small Utah town that's home to around 5,400 people, many of whom are of Swiss heritage. Every year, the town hosts its Swiss Days celebration, and it's one of the Beehive State's largest mountain festivals. The town of Midway is known as the Little Switzerland of Utah, and that is never more clear than during Midway Swiss Days. This annual festival is scheduled for August 30 and 31 this year, and if it's anything like past years, the 2024 event is going to be like a trip to Europe without ever leaving Utah. We can't think of a better way to spend an August day.
The little town of Midway is surrounded by mountains on Utah's Wasatch Back. The Swiss immigrants who settled in the area in the 1860s and 1870s may have missed their European homes, but they brought their culture and traditions with them.
That Swiss heritage is celebrated every year at the Swiss Days celebration, held on the Friday and Saturday before Labor Day.
Thousands of people from all over the Beehive State attend Swiss Days every year, and you're going to want to make plans to visit, too.
The Swiss Days Market opens at 8 a.m. on Friday. You'll find vendors selling all kinds of handcrafted and Swiss-themed items.
Plan on grabbing lunch or a snack here, too. Food vendors offer everything from knockwurst sandwiches to candy apples.
Head to the gazebo at Town Square for some great outdoor entertainment. Enjoy local talent that includes singing, dancing, and musical performances all throughout both days of the festival.
You won't want to miss the annual production of the William Tell Play on the Town Hall Stage. Other performances at this venue include Swiss Bells, Swiss Children's Chorus, and more.
On Saturday morning, wake up early and head to the chuckwagon breakfast at 7 a.m. Cheer on the runners (or participate yourself) in the 10k and kid's race.
The parade at 10 a.m. is a family favorite. See this year's Swiss Miss Royalty, and enjoy the beautiful floats and marching bands.
Many families make Swiss Days an annual tradition. Plan to visit this year's celebration!
