Dinner and a movie is an old date-night standby, but it does get pretty predictable. You can easily fall into the trap of getting your dinner at a chain restaurant and heading to the latest action movie at the big franchise theater. This weekend, try something a little different.
Start with dinner at The Copper Onion. You'll find it at 111 E. Broadway in Salt Lake City.
It's a casual, bistro-style spot that serves some delicious food. If you tell them that you're headed to a movie, they'll make sure you're cashed out in plenty of time for your show.
The Copper Onion Burger is a house favorite...
...but you'll find lots of small plates, salads and entrees on the menu. Everything here is locally sourced whenever possible and very fresh. The menu changes seasonally.
After dinner, head next door to Broadway Centre Cinemas.
The movies at The Broadway are independent flicks. You'll also find some foreign films here. If you're new to independent film, keep an open mind. It's a little different than the high body count, cg-laden Hollywood blockbuster films that are the mainstream, but some of the best movies go through this theater every year.
After your movie, grab a drink and dessert at Copper Common. It's located just east of Copper Onion.
Copper Common is owned by the same folks as Copper Onion. If it's warm outside, you can sit on the large patio.
The drink menu here is creative, and extensive. You can also choose from a large selection of beer and wine.
The desserts here are heavenly. This is the roasted peach with praline ice cream and caramel.
