If you're an aviation enthusiast, there's a museum in Texas with your name written all over it. Houston's Lone Star Flight Museum is home to 130,000 square feet of aircraft, many of which are rare and historic. You'll learn all about the history of air travel, try your hand at a flight simulator, and maybe even hitch a ride in a vintage Warbird! The whole family is sure to have a blast at this one-of-a-kind destination.
Located in Houston, the Lone Star Flight Museum features more than 24 historically significant aircraft, as well as many artifacts related to the history of aviation.
You'll find the museum in the Ellington Airport on Aerospace Avenue.
Spanning 130,000 acres, the facility is divided into two separate hangars.
You'll also see the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame, which honors 80 aviators who call Texas home.
With hands-on activities for all ages, the museum is as educational as it is fun.
From getting familiar with the controls in the cockpit to learning the fundamentals of aircraft design, there's plenty to keep both kids and kids at heart entertained all day long.
Even more aircraft are on display outside, so you should allot at least 2-3 hours to see everything.
The best part? Most of the planes can still fly! That fact alone sets the museum apart from most others like it.
During your visit, you have the rare opportunity to hitch a ride in a vintage Warbird plane!
It's a thrilling experience you'll remember for years to come.
If you aren't much of an adrenaline junkie, consider hopping in a flight simulator instead.
There are two different kinds, one of which is offered on weekends only at no extra charge (beyond that of general admission). The other simulator is for flight training purposes only.
Address: 11551 Aerospace Avenue, Houston, TX 77034.
Hours are 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, and 12 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday.
