Everything is bigger and better in Texas, even our grocery stores. Here are seven awesome supermarkets in our state that you just can't find anywhere else.
1. Central Market (Houston)
I like to think of Central Market as the fancier version of H-E-B. It's filled with natural, organic products as well as unique, gourmet items like chocolates and desserts. There's also a salad bar, a make-your-own sandwich area, a prepared foods section, and much more. You can even eat your food outside on an upstairs balcony!3815 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77027
2. Fiesta Mart (Austin, Houston, DFW Metroplex)
Fiesta Mart is your one-stop shop for all the best Mexican items, from salsas to spices to bakery items that you just can't find anywhere else. I mean, 2 pastries for $0.99?! That's what I'm talking about.
3. Phoenicia Specialty Foods (Houston)
If you like Greek food, Phoenicia is the place for you. This mall-sized grocery store is fully stocked with oils, olives, and everyone's favorite - warm pita bread fresh out of the oven. I can practically smell it right now.1001 Austin St
Houston, TX 77010
4. 99 Ranch Market (Houston, Austin, Dallas)
99 Ranch Market is one of the largest Asian markets I've ever been to. You'll find lots of unique foods here that you won't find anywhere else, including fresh jackfruit and frozen durian. There are even a few restaurants inside the market. How cool is that?
5. MT Supermarket (Austin)
Everything is bigger in Texas, and MT Supermarket definitely understands that. It's basically a warehouse full of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian, Vietnamese, Filipino, Thai, and Indonesian groceries. Austin's Chinatown was voted one of the top 5 in the country, so it's undoubtedly something worth checking out.10901 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78753
6. India Store (San Antonio)
India Store is a little hole-in-the-wall, strip-center shop, but we Texans know that these places often hold hidden treasures. You can buy rice in bulk, naan bread, your favorite curry sauces, and more. Don't pass this gem up!5751 Evers Rd, San Antonio, TX 78238
7. H-E-B (Everywhere)
Would this really be a Texas grocery store list if I didn't include our beloved H-E-B? Every Texan knows this store, but readers from other states have likely never even heard of it. I always feel lost when I go out of state and am forced to shop elsewhere. People in other states don't know what they're missing out on!
If all this talk of food is making you hungry, head over to one of these amazing places for a bite to eat.
Have you shopped at any of these supermarkets? What other grocery stores are unique to Texas?
