Texas is full of unique abandoned places, as well as incredible sights that are extra special when viewed from above. When searching for places to fly a drone, one might not expect to find a Texas quarry flooded after years of closure. And yet, this drone captured some of the coolest footage of this abandoned Texas quarry, with some surprises at the end.
Back in 2014, aerial photographer Michael Hess sent his drone skyward over an abandoned rock quarry and found something incredible - and unexpected - submerged beneath the surface.
Although the waters look calm and blue from eye level, from above, you can clearly see three large pieces of construction equipment, drowned and nearly forgotten.
One...
Two...
Three.
What started as a simple drone flight over this Texas quarry had quickly turned into an incredible discovery. What might not be distinguishable with the naked eye on the shoreline was beautifully captured on film, creating the ultimate flyover adventure.
As the footage moves closer, you can see clearly just how unique of a discovery this is.
Was the quarry flooded quickly, and these vehicles couldn't be saved? Were they simply too much of a hassle to remove? We may never know, but we can imagine how exciting it would be to go for a test flight and discover hidden treasure!

For anyone looking for some more unique drone footage in Texas, you're in luck! While it might not be a flyover of an abandoned quarry, we do have footage that shows the capital city of Austin, Texas, in a new light. This drone video will give you a brand-new vantage point even if you've been to Austin multiple times. For an extra special experience that's along the lines of abandoned architecture, how about a weekend stay in this historic bank?
