It's that time of year, folks! America's birthday is almost here, and you better believe we celebrate in a big way in Texas. I'll admit, I've been guilty of getting my fireworks fix in front of the TV some years, but those days are over. There are simply too many spectacular shows across the state to justify not seeing one of them in person! We wrote a similar article last year, but this time we've featured the best of the best and listed some more underneath. Without further ado, here are the most amazing fireworks displays in Texas.
1. Louie's Backyard (South Padre Island)
South Padre Island has been deemed the "Fireworks Capital of Texas" because it puts on an incredible show not only on July 4th, but every Friday night during the summer. With all that time to practice, you better believe the big show, beginning at 9:15 PM on the actual holiday, is larger than life. This restaurant right on the Laguna Madre Bay offers one of the best views on the island.
2. Austin Symphony Orchestra Fireworks & Symphony (Austin)
This is the biggest fireworks show in Austin, held over the beautiful Lady Bird Lake with the brightly lit downtown Austin skyline on the horizon and the powerful music of the symphony playing in the background. It would be a crime to miss such a spectacular show, so be there by 9:45 PM sharp or be square!
3. Woodlawn Lake Park (San Antonio)
Some families camp out the night before just to get a good spot on the lawn, so you know this show is good. It's the official fireworks show of San Antonio, and it's truly a marvel to witness. The festivities start early (8:30 AM) and end at 10 PM after the fireworks.
4. Fair Park (Dallas)
Just looking at this makes me want to spend my 4th in Dallas this year. Best of all, the show is totally free! It's a big party at the fairgrounds complete with food, games, and live music. I can't think of a better way to wish America a happy birthday. (Show begins at 9:45 PM)
5. Eleanor Tinsley Park (Houston)
Wow...how incredible does this show look? It's the largest fireworks display in Houston and by far the most popular. It's usually accompanied by live music, too! The celebration is an all-day event, running from 4:30 PM to 10 PM.
6. The Woodlands
This is the second largest fireworks display in the entire state, and if that doesn't have you itching to hop in the car, I don't know what will. The show starts at 9:15 PM overlooking Town Greek Park - the perfect way to end a full day of eating, shopping, sightseeing, and celebrating our freedom.
