With all of the true crime shows and mystery novels flooding our culture as of late, it's almost impossible to find someone who doesn't figure themselves an amateur detective of sorts. At the Alcatraz East Crime Museum in Sevierville, you can finally live out your dream. This is, "Criminal Minds" and "CSI" all rolled into one, with a healthy dose of reality run thick throughout.
The expansive crime museum works to give folks a deep, hands-on look at crime history in the United States. Just so you know - though it is modeled after the famed Alcatraz in San Francisco, the museum covers a broad swath of criminal history as a whole, not just The Rock.
Kid-friendly and fun for adults, too, there are five galleries in the 25,000 square foot museum. Two floors of hands-on experience includes over 100 interactive exhibits, focusing on topics like forensic science, the penal system, crime prevention and the Judiciary Branch of government.
You'll notice the solid attention to detail throughout the museum as well, whether you're in the Wild West Room or discovering serial killers.
Take part in the Heist, where you can make your way through a laser security system like the best kind of James Bond movie. Hey - you have to save the precious work of art, after all.
Check out neat exhibits like this one, where you can see a contraband tattoo gun. Not the safest or most clean, for sure, so let's look and not touch.
There's even an exhibition wall of prison tattoos! You can learn the meanings behind each of them, and perhaps pick out one of your own. (Just kidding - don't do it. Especially with that tattoo gun...)
One of the most interesting artifacts on display is the white Ford Bronco made famous by OJ Simpson's mad dash down the 405 in the mid-90s. Fascinating and historic artifacts are scattered around the entirety of the museum, sure to invoke a sense of shock and awe through the whole family.
There are different ticket prices and levels of entrance, so you'll want to pick the one that is most appealing to you and your family, including the amount of the museum you're looking to explore.
Open 365 days a year, you can visit for yourself at 2757 Parkway in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Make sure to visit their temporary exhibit, "Ivory, Tortoise Shell & Fur: The Ugly Truth Of Wildlife Trafficking" in May. It's bound to be fascinating!
It's a neat place of adventurous learning, popular with the whole family. Continue your exploration of the Volunteer State with this One Of A Kind Elephant Sanctuary Right Here In Tennessee.
