There is beauty to be found everywhere in the state of Tennessee, but most of the time visitors and locals are busy taking in the natural profundity of the Volunteer State. The mountains are beautiful and the valleys are lush, but there are a few man-made elements that really can leave a mark. The Natchez Trace Parkway Bridge is located just outside of the state's capital city, and we have a feeling you aren't going to want to miss it. It crosses the ever-beautiful Birdsong Hollow, and it's one of the most beautiful places in Williamson County.
Tucked away in the heart of Williamson County, Tennessee, you'll find a bridge that is known not only for its beauty but its architectural creativity. It's one of the most popular spots to stop when folks reach the northern edge of the Natchez Trace Parkway, and remains a highly photographed location.
Known as the Natchez Trace Parkway Bridge as well as the Natchez Trace Parkway Arches, the bridge was actually the first segmentally constructed concrete arch bridge in the United States. What that means is that the bridge was built in short sections, as opposed to traditionally constructing the bridge on a larger scale.
The span is 1,572 feet long, with a total width of 37 feet. The bridge itself was designed in the early 90s, and cost roughly $11.3 million dollars to build. Construction was completed in the fall of 1993, but the bridge did not open until the following spring.
Isn't the view of the valley unreal? The bridge itself is maintained by the National Park Service, and is known to host a little over 200 cars in daily traffic. There is no toll, so its also become popular for folks to stop and take photographs.
Even a misty morning looks beautiful from atop the Natchez Trace Parkway Bridge. At only two lanes, it still manages to pack a stunning punch.
