If you haven't heard of the Idea Hatchery in East Nashville, you've got a place to be this weekend. The quirky hub of locally owned "pods" bring a solid place to shop local to Nashville. Its green exterior and fun, paved courtyard area makes it great to visit on lazy Saturdays when the weather is warm. Or from your computer with us, of course.
The Idea Hatchery is considered a, "small business incubator concept". It consists of eight pods, designed between 168 and 320 square feet. Pretty tiny, hey? But just big enough to hold a neat local start-up.
With fairly affordable rents and utilities based on square footage, this is a fantastic place for folks to get their small business off the ground or make their home. The popular Haulin' Oats used to be located here, and you can still vintage shop at the popular Hello, Boys.
The business collective inspired the nearby Shops at Fatherland, and has come to be a pillar in Five Points tourism since its opening in 2011.
The whole of the area has a place of whimsy - this sweet fairy tree will greet you as you walk up the front steps.
You can step into the whimsical Camp Gypsy (pictured), or pick up a piece of local literature at East Side Story. Find something for yourself at the vintage boot and clothing outfitter, The GoodBuy Girls, or find a fine leather gift at Alegria.
This is the kind of business plan you don't find too often. Apparently, when the pods were set to open, there was a waiting list of local artisans and businesses.
