One of the most impressive parts about living in Tennessee is the opportunity to experience history in the most unexpected ways. Whether it be a hiking trail or interpretive museum, history in the Volunteer State really is all around us. Today, we'll introduce you to a relatively little-known attraction located just 15 miles south of Clarksville. Historic Collinsville is an authentic pioneer settlement that depicts what life was like in rural Tennessee in the nineteenth century. Situated on 40 acres of green rolling hills, this family-friendly attraction is equal parts picturesque and informative. Here's more on why this pioneer settlement is a must-visit.
Steeped in history and natural beauty, Historic Collinsville is a remarkable landmark in Tennessee. Though it's been open to the public for 20 years, it may just be one of the state's best kept secrets.
The historic site is a carefully recreated pioneer settlement that depicts life in the 1800s. The settlement first opened to offer children a hands-on and interactive experience of Tennessee's pioneer history that they could enjoy outside of the classroom.
In that same spirit, Historic Collinsville continues to offer tours, interpretive programs, and events that will make you feel as though you've traveled back in time.
There are sixteen historical structures that make up the settlement. Each is filled with authentic period furnishings that date from 1830 - 1900.
Some of the buildings include a Dogtrot House that dates back to 1855, a two-room cabin from 1842 that once housed thirteen children, a church, schoolhouse, and blacksmith shop. There's even a house with a connection to the famous outlaw Jesse James.
Visitors can learn more about the natural history of the land when they stop by the Wildlife Center. It's here you'll find Native American artifacts and learn more about the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Creek, Iroquois and Shawnee tribes that once traveled through the area.
Spring is undoubtedly one of the most magical times to visit. The season begins on April 20th, when visitors can celebrate with an Easter Eggstravaganza and Spring Homecoming. The event includes guided tours, egg hunts, food trucks, lawn games, and more.
