Here's the thing: we love adventures. Adventuring is the best kind of thing out there. It invigorates the mind and stretches understanding and a knowledge of what's around us. That being said, sometimes we can't quite afford the kind of monetary influx we need to fund excitement. So we found 15 awesome things you can do, sans wallet. You're welcome.
15. Visit the Tennessee State Museum.
Take your family on an adventure through Tennessee history, completely free of charge.
14. Explore a fun new city by foot.
We just did Nolensville, and it was pretty much the best decision of our November. Completely darling, and the hospitality was out of this world. Where else can you get homemade treats as you go antiquing?
13. Take a walk around the largest Confederate cemetery in the south.
Walk your kids through the McGavock Confederate Cemetery and tell them the story of men who gave their lives for something they truly, deeply believed in. It's a powerful thing.
12. Wait in line to take in a show at the Bluebird Café.
If you manage to wait through their line, you can get in for free. It's an epic show, too.
11. Visit the Memphis Center for Southern Folklore.
Need an infusion of history? Make your way to Memphis. It's a free history lesson, chock full of stories you've never heard before.
10. Go antiquing.
We have a wealth of history in Tennessee, so there are sure to be quite a few antique shops that will strike your fancy.
9. Take a tour at the Jack Daniel's Distillery in Lynchburg.
Nothin' like a free tour - just an fyi, though. You have to buy your Jack. Sorry, folks.
8. Find a free show.
You never know what bigwig will show up at that local dive bar. It's Tennessee.
7. Take a walk down Beale Street or the Honky Tonk Highway.
Nashville or Memphis, you can people-watch to your heart's content.
6. Find a festival.
Tennesseans are friendly folk, and we love to get together and celebrate.
5. Take a lap around Radnor Lake.
The lakeside trail is one of the most charming and calming places outside of Nashville.
4. Explore Chattanooga.
Chattanooga sometimes gets forgotten, in its Southern Tennessee glory. This darling town has greenways and neat riverwalks you can explore free of charge. Plus, their downtown is DARLING.
3. Drive "The Dragon."
Known around the world as one of the craziest roads for thrill-seekers, The Dragon is located in East Tennessee and boasts 318 turns in 11 miles. Whoa.
2. Get in the car and find a scenic outlook.
They're spread all over the state, so it only takes a quick search to find the one closest to you. They're quite magical.
