Tennessee is a beautiful place to visit. From the banks of the Mississippi to the heights of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, our state really does have a lot to offer. Some of those places come with crazy crowds, but we've compiled a list for those looking to take in the wonder of our state without the hassle of a ton of other people. These cool Tennessee attractions are absolutely worth a visit.
10. The Wolf River Conservancy
Located in Memphis, the Wolf River is a beautiful natural area that is perfect for anyone looking for a beautiful outdoor experience. The river inundates the trees around it, making for a beautiful and eerie place to get out the kayak and explore.
9. Live and Let Live Drug Store
This old-time drug store in Rockwood may not seem like much, but this place is the perfect spot to experience the old days. Grab a drink from their soda fountain and peruse their gift section to take home something truly unique.
8. The Lost Sea
If you haven't heard about the Lost Sea, you're probably living under a rock, in which case you might actually be in the Lost Sea. It's the biggest underground lake in America and can be toured pretty much any day of the year! Find more information here.
7. The Bell Witch Cave
One of the most haunted places in the United States, the Bell Witch Cave has been a part of national lore for a long time. Located in Adams, the cave is still open to tours. Check it out here.
6. Virgin Falls Pocket Wilderness
Located at the end of a 8.3 mile trail, Virgin Falls is absolutely worth the effort it takes to get there. It's one of the most beautiful and secluded places in the state.
5. The Peabody Hotel
The Peabody in Memphis is absolutely beautiful and deserves a visit just for their beautiful lobby alone. But there's more -- every day at 11 AM and 5 PM, the red carpet is rolled out, and the hotel's permanent VIP's make their way to the lobby's fountain for a quick swim. That's right, the VIP's are ducks, and they've been doing their daily march for nearly 90 years.
4. The Crystal Shrine Grotto
The grotto was built in the 30's, and it's decorated with five tons of quartz crystal. It's located in a cemetery and depicts various scenes from the life of Jesus, making it one of the quirkier attractions in the state, but it's still absolutely stunning and worth the visit. Find out more here.
3. The International Rock-A-Billy Hall of Fame
Located in downtown Jackson, the Rock-A-Billy Hall of Fame and Museum is an often overlooked museum to an often overlooked art form, but this is a museum that doesn't disappoint. Make sure to check it out during your next visit to Jackson!
2. Skullbone
Skullbone is probably the most unique and quirky unincorporated towns in the country. Consisting of a general store, a signpost, and a telephone pole covered in cowboy boots, you don't want to miss this town. Find out more about it here.
1. Backyard Terrors Dinosaur Park
Backyard Terrors is just what it sounds like -- a guy in Bluff City has slowly turned his backyard in to a Jurassic Park. He builds life-sized dinosaur models and has created an exhibit for families to walk through. Check it out here.
