Every Saturday morning, rain or shine, the 1300-1500 blocks of Main Street in Columbia transform into a lively street market filled with fun shopping, friendly people, and food - lots of food. Soda City is the name of this unique weekly market, named for the treasured colloquialism 'Cola,' meant to be an abbreviation of Columbia.
Every week, from 9 am to 1 pm the 1300 to 1500 blocks of Main Street are filled with an average of 150 vendors, and a comfortable, yet steady, flow of locals enjoying the morning and the festivities.
And an average of 7,000 people converge on the market to get their fix of quirky vendor booths, food trucks, music, and fellowship. It's a tradition that carries through the steamy hot summer months as well as the few chilling weeks of winter.
Here at the market, you'll find everything from local hand-crafted items to fresh vegetables. It's likely you'll be bringing something home, and if you have a backpack or an easy to carry bag of your own, we suggest you bring it and fill it to the brim.
And come hungry! Every week there are anywhere from 12-15 food trucks on hand...
and some booths with food of their own. (Yum... boiled peanuts!)
The Soda City Market is an ideal place to bring friends from out of town to show them just how fun the Capital City can be. You can also enjoy some super interesting street art, like the Neverbust Chain by local artist, Sky.
Of course, there are local artists on hand, too. You'll find a variety of local art ranging from paintings, to handmade jewelry, pottery, and other artisan creations.
Who would ever imagine a street fair would be plopped right in the middle of Main Street each and every week? Have you made it to Soda City Market yet? We'd love to hear how much you love it too!
